Our Thanksgiving Down South

November 28, 2013

We traveled down to visit my family in South Alabama this year for Thanksgiving.
On the way down we got a spend a little time in Birmingham with Big Mama and Papo. We got to see Aunt Wendy for a while, and Rodney and I got to go on a date and see the second "Hunger Games" movie. That was nice. Thanks, Big Mama and Papo!
I never unpacked my camera while we were there, though.

As for Thanksgiving day, it was pretty low key. My sister graciously had us over to her house for lunch and my Mom also made a ton of food. It was delicious, and it seems it's been a while since we ate a special meal like that together. I made pumpkin pies for the first time, as I am in a pumpkin-as-a-main-ingredient kick, but apparently, though they turned out quite well, a lot of people aren't fond of pumpkin pie as far as pies go so my sister ended up being left with a bunch of pie. Mental note taken.

We even squeezed in our Christmas gift exchange since we wouldn't see them again before then.
It was such fun seeing all of the kids open up gifts together. They don't get to spend much time together, and I enjoy seeing them play together and interact when they do.
BB and G-Daddy, yet again, went overboard loving on their "babies" and buying for them!
They got some awesome gifts that they adore!

Andrew doesn't look too excited, but at this point it was a couple of hours past nap time, so though he was happy, he wasn't overly excited. Just like Daddy.

Hannah was super excited to get an American Girl doll!

I think BB was equally excited too.

She took a break from the excitement and read a little bit of the book that came with her doll.

Hudson LOVES his new Batman and Spiderman dolls.

Andrew and cousin, Brody, got light sabers!

They got so much fun stuff. Hannah even got a Cinderella II and III movie set that had a free movie pass to go see "Frozen," so Hannah and I had a girl date with sweet friends and went to see the movie! Good move, Aunt Jenn! It was the gift that kept on giving!

Unfortunately, I again forgot to get a family picture of us on Thanksgiving! Oh, well! I guess it's good that I remembered to even pack my camera at all.

The morning before we left we stopped in to say goodbye to my grandparents.
We enjoyed getting to spend a little time with them.

My Grandma and me

It was so sweet and so touching seeing my Grandma listening to Hannah talk about her new doll and seeing her smile so big talking with her as if it was the most important thing in the world. They stroked her hair, fixed her dress, put her hat on, and just chatted as if the doll were a real friend. It was so sweet, I had to capture it.

The boys with my Grandaddy

The kids, as usual, were so sweet and traveled so well and slept so well too. These trips just get easier and easier. If only, we could cut down on all of the stuff we have to pack and carry!
