Hudson and the Handbells & Hannah's School Christmas Show

December 19, 2013
Hudson's Preschool class got to participate in the evening performance of the annual TCPS Lower School Christmas Show. The Pre-K students got to play the handbells. His teacher and the music teacher held up cue cards with colored circles indicating when to ring to correct colored bell. He missed a couple of practices and switched bells (and corresponding colors on the cue cards) in the last practice, but he was unphased. He picked right up like it was nothing.
He was so cute during the show. He kept looking over and smiling and waving carefully, all while not missing cues.
I was happy this first picture was not too incredibly blurry because we had to sit pretty far out and my flash wasn't doing well that far away.

And after the adorable preschoolers, the rest of the cast got to perform. They always have really cute skits that are funny and are all about Jesus being the reason we celebrate. It's nice to have that focus being a major part of our kids' school experience. We are very thankful to have Tennessee Christian!
Hannah was very excited to play her part of the nativity portion and be an angel.

I had kept her out of school most of that week because I found out on Monday that several of her classmates had the flu. They weren't doing much real content the rest of the week, so in an effort to keep her and the rest of our family well, I just kept her home. She had been coughing some, but had no indications of the flu so we carried on and went to the performance fever-free.
Well, you could see it sweep over her face during the show. She started feeling really bad and I could tell she was rounding the corner into flu-city. When we got home she had spiked a fever of over 102. Poor girl, she kept going though and sang every word. She's such a trooper. I felt bad that she was there exposing others, but I checked her temp right before we left and asked her how she was feeling and she was totally fine. It happened so fast! So, apparently she was already exposed before Monday. Oh well. I tried. We were really blessed though. She only had a fever for about 36 hours and felt fine most of the time. She was tired, but still played well. She got tested, took Tamiflu, and got fluids and lots of rest while she bunked in our bedroom away from the boys. I kept her separate for five days and thankfully, the boys did not get it and neither did I. Rodney got it and was sick for almost his entire Christmas vacation. It could have been a lot worse. It wasn't a bad flu at all. We are happy to be well now. But, we start back to school Monday, so we'll see how long it lasts!
