My sweet baby boy is officially three months old today. The last few months have been a whirlwind but, surprisingly, it doesn't feel like I've taken the newborn phase for granted. Maybe I've learned to savor it more each time because I've learned how it comes and goes so quickly. It's so important to me to document with writing, with pictures, and with video the life of all of our children. I just want to hold on to each one, to remember it, and to cherish it. My memory does not serve me well and I fear it will disappointingly diminish more quickly with each passing year. I guess that's the way memory works. Even so, I want to hold on to the sound of each first belly laugh, those sweet first words, the first steps that make you so proud, and now, the silly things that they say as they get older and the things that they learn and how quickly they learn about the world around them. I want to hold on to the "Mommy"s before they inevitably change to "Mom." And the silly laughs that are provoked in them with the slightest of efforts. I guess I'm feeling nostalgic or sentimental or just plain sappy, but the Mommies out there understand these feelings.
Anyway, my littlest man has been with us for three whole months. And we can't imagine life without him. He has such a sweet and happy spirit. He's pretty easy to please and is content just hanging out (if his tummy is full). He smiles every time you talk to him and even when you don't. He has developed a special friendship with one of the little bears hanging from the bar across his bouncy seat and also with the baby in the mirror over him in his swing. He laughs at them and talks to them often. He loves everyone and does not mind being held by anyone who is willing. We have lots of helpers at church that pass him around, and he seems to really like it.
His hair is still as wild as ever and it doesn't seem as if he's lost one strand of it. Maybe he won't. I hope not. I love how it's always so fluffy and doesn't lay down. I have no doubts his eyes will stay a beautiful blue just like his Daddy and Hannah and Hudson.
I took him to the doctor today to get two shots and I checked his weight while I was there. He is 14 pounds and 14 ounces now. That's almost two more pounds in a month. I love the rolls he has on his little thighs. I just love that three-month chunkiness. They thin out and look older so fast.
He sleeps pretty well and sometimes goes all night. He mostly sleeps from 8:00pm to 4 or 5am with a quick dream feed at 10 or 11pm.
Oh, and he LOVES standing in your lap. His little legs are so strong. It seems to be one of his favorite things to do.
He flips over from his tummy (his favorite sleeping position) onto his back all the time now. And I know the moment he flips over during nap because he starts screaming as if someone just waltzed in and flipped him over just to annoy him. I'll be glad when he learns how to flip back over. And the paci. The day he learns how to keep that thing in his mouth when he wants it will be a good day. Thankfully, when he's fast asleep he doesn't need it.
He has found how enjoyable his fists, fingers, and thumbs can be and tries to suck on them whenever he can coax them into his mouth.
Check out his double chin. Love it.
He sticks out his tongue some now and smiles with it out a lot. And. It. Is. Too. Cute!
He is taking tub baths now and was unsure at first, but he's getting used to it. He LOVES getting his hair washed under the sink with really warm water.
He's getting so big!
Hannah continues to be such a big help and asks to feed him at least once a day. I have to say, I let her. She's a pro and enjoys helping and caring for him. And he sure does love his sister.
Hudson loves on him a lot too. To be so rambunctious he sure is tender and gentle with Andrew. He loves to lay beside him on his blanket. He also loves to help feed him, which usually means he grabs the bottle for 10 seconds and then carries on with what he was doing.
I can't wait to witness all of the firsts that will happen over the next few months!
