Creative Discovery Museum

We've started a fun tradition of going on a day trip to do something fun each Summer in honor of Hannah's and Hudson's birthdays. Last year we went to the Aquarium. This year, thanks to the generosity of our sweet neighbors gifting us with free tickets, we decided to go to the Creative Discovery Museum. So this past Saturday we spent the day there. It was so much fun. It was so laid-back and relaxing despite being in a crowded place full of kids. It was just so fun to see the kids interested in all of the different activities.

First on the list was the Riverplay section. This section also had an enormous playground with tunnels and ladders and things up a story or two looking down onto the Riverplay. This was by far Hudson's favorite part of the museum. During one of Andrew's naps I sat on a bench and just watched Hudson playing for over half an hour, moving from one section to the next, pushing this and pulling that, shooting this and connecting that. I couldn't help thinking of how much he looked like a little engineer and reminded me of his Daddy. I love to watch him think and experiment and figure out how thinks work.

Hannah loved Riverplay too, but moved on more quickly than Hudson.

The music section was also a hit with the kids. Each giant "instrument" had a button that when pushed played a song. They were all synchronized to the same song and we enjoyed getting them all going at once to hear the full band effect.

The science section was interesting, though they didn't really understand the physics behind it all.

The Tinkertoy reminded me of that Plinko game that was always my favorite on The Price is Right (my Granny always watched this show at 10:00 every morning of every day).

The Lookout Tower

Games on the Roof
They enjoyed this chair that went up and rang a bell when you hoisted yourself up far enough with the rope. (You can see little Andrew in the background)

She's working hard!
Hannah grabbed a hula hoop and kept those hips 'a swingin' until she had it spinning around her waist.

Daddy got in on some hula action too.

The big bubble was fun too!

We walked over a few blocks to TGI Friday's by the Aquarium to have a late lunch.

It was a day full of smiles and laughs....and no tears! Hannah and Hudson were wonderfully behaved and Andrew (a.k.a. World's Happiest Baby) never cried once while we were there. He just went along happily and napped in my arms twice while we were there and also ate twice. He had no trouble sleeping amidst all the noise of a place like that. When he wasn't sleeping or eating he enjoyed riding in the stroller and looking around and playing with his chew toys. He did, however, start crying on the way home, but we pushed him over the edge by stopping at Costco for some groceries on the way home (Rodney and the kids waited in the car as Hudson slept some). Any baby would fuss after a day like that. We were at the museum by 10:30 and got home at around 5:30. It was a busy day, but a great one. It's so nice that even with three kids so young we can be so relaxed and just enjoy the time together without incidence. We are very proud of the kids any time we do things like this, and it is always a good reminder of how well-behaved and sweet they are. It makes me feel like all of the effort and hard work it takes to discipline and teach them is so worth it (of course I always know it's worth it, but sometimes I can be discouraged and think I'm not doing a very good job teaching them to become Godly people and modeling that for them).
This was one of those days of which I think "I really want to just burn this day into my memory forever."
