I have decided not to include a picture in this post because I don't think Hudson would appreciate it when he gets older and because this is the internet after all! But, I did want to announce and document that Hudson is potty training! He first pee-peed on the potty back on September 20th before bath when Rodney just sat him down on the little potty and asked if he needed to go. He had been showing some signs of possibly being ready to train but I didn't really want to bother with it until I knew for sure he was really ready and this training business wouldn't go on forever. After all, with Hannah it took about 9 months between when we started and when it was official. She did great at first but then decided she wanted no part of it and started regressing (all around the time Hudson was born). With the new baby coming I just didn't want to even start right now. First of all, the thought of those endless potty trips every half an hour trying to coax a pee-pee out of my 2 year old while I was sitting there thinking of all the other things I could be doing instead of spending literally hours a day in the restroom did not appeal to me....at all. Secondly, Hudson is a boy after all, and I've been told that they usually don't train until at least 2 1/2 to 3. Third, the boy poops and doesn't even let on that anything is different. You only know because of the not-s0-pleasant aroma. I say all of this because I really didn't think it would do any good to start now. I had planned to just start after the baby is born and we have settled into a routine.
Well, Hudson really surprised us. For about a week starting in mid-October he started following me to the potty and wanting to hand me toilet paper, flush, and proceed to wave and say, "Bye-bye Mama's pee-pee!" Well, one day I decided to ask him if he had to go pee-pee on the potty too. As I tried to sit him on the small potty, he said, "Hudson pee-pee on big potty." I thought okay, let's give it a shot. I sat him down and told him that if he went pee-pee on the potty that I would give him a piece of chocolate. He then pee-peed and asked for his chocolate. I was a little shocked but didn't get too excited because I never thought he would just start going every time. Well, that's just what he did! Starting on October 25, I started really training him and taking him to potty every 30 minutes. He doesn't always stay dry, but he makes himself go Every. Single. Time. I take him to potty! I should hav enever underestimated what he would do for chocolate. He has changed the potty song to:
"Pee-pee. on. the. pot-ty. get. a. big. ole. choc-let!"
It's so cute!
Since that day he has gone every time I take him and is rewarded with his color M&M of choice, always brown or blue, since those are the only 2 colors he knows without fail.
We are very proud of him and are just taking it as it comes and not making it a big deal. He is, after all, not even 2 1/2.
I didn't think it would be this easy! And, I have to say, using the big potty instead of the little training potty saves so much time and clean-up!
