On October 28 through October 30 Rodney and I went on a Marriage Retreat with 11 other couples from our church. The Retreat was at the WinShape Retreat on the campus of Berry College in Rome, Georgia. The WinShape is owned and run by the Cathys who own the Chick-fil-A franchise and many charitable organizations. The WinShape is used as a camp for girls during the Summer and is used for marriage retreats throughout the year for churchs and individuals who want to come and study or whose marriage is in jeopardy and in need of saving. Our group was studying "Love and Respect," a video series by Emerson Eggerichs. He basically spoke a lot about the different needs and tendencies of men versus women in marriage, ie. women primarily need and want to be loved and men, in turn, need to feel respected in marriage. My generic description doesn't do it justice as it is one of the best marriage studies we've ever done. It was informative, insightful, convicting, encouraging, and entertaining. I would recommend it to anyone looking for something to do together to help you grow in love as husband and wife.
The WinShape campus, and Berry College as a whole, was a beautiful setting. It was definitely a retreat from the world. It was beautiful and relaxing.
They had people taking your bags as you arrived, someone cleaning your room every morning, and fabulous meals that were included in our package. The food was amazing! The chefs even wore chefs hats and jackets. Also, there were coffee, cider, hot chocolate, soft drink, and water stations everywhere for the taking. One thing I noticed to further explain how nice this place was is that each time a group took a break to the restrooms, a cleaning crew (that I never even saw) would sweep through and even fold down the corners of the toilet paper! Can you tell I'm not used to anything this nice? It was so nice to be pampered!
Rodney and I really enjoyed our time there. It was nice to be kid-free for the weekend and enjoy such lavish and relaxing treatment.
Big thanks go out to Big Mama and Papo who watched the kids for the weekend for us to go. We dropped them off in Birmingham on our way there.
Here is a picture of the building our group stayed in, the Normandy.
