Wyatt's first month

We jumped fairly seamlessly into living as a family with four kids. By now we are used to juggling, and everyone is so excited to have Wyatt here no one is too focused on themselves to attend to him and give him attention. Of course, it is a regular occurrence that he has to fuss quite a bit longer than the others would have when he needs Mommy just because he has to wait his turn. Sometimes (okay, almost all the time) many things are going on at the same time, and the kids outnumber the adults. But, we like to think it will teach how to be a very patient man. And that's a good thing.

Highlights from Wyatt's first month:

I really only had two or three nights where we had to hold him to have him settle to sleep. A few nights were spent sleeping in the recliner with him on our chests.
4 days old

He's a very noisy little guy with lots of grunts and noises, even when he moves when asleep.
He cries mainly when he is hungry or has a dirty diaper, and he is definitely a pacifier baby.

    one week old

His sleepiest time was morning to noon (I wish he slept this well during the night!)

He slept pretty well through all of the noise initially, but we soon realized he was a light sleeper like the rest of us.

    10 days old
He looks so cute when he sleeps.

    two weeks old
He had plenty of diapers, digestion was great (as opposed to Andrew's first few weeks), and he seemed to have no real gas issues at this point.

He has the cutest little feet!

Those first few weeks, he was sleeping between feedings, but with feeding him taking so long I only got about three to four hours of total sleep a night. This continued for a few weeks. It was exhausting, and patience ran short with mommy duties.

By three weeks, he settled between night feedings and went sometimes four hours between feedings, with me sleeping six hours total most nights.

    almost three weeks
(I scratch my face all the time even though Mommy clips my nails all the time)

He smiled/laughed for the first time at one week old. He looked up at me and smiled with his whole face and his mouth wide open. I cherish those first smiles! He smiled first at Daddy at twelve days old, and it was a huge one with a laugh! And ever since, he smiles whenever someone talks to him.

    3.5 weeks
I had the hardest time catching a smile!
    This is an almost-smile.

Sweet Andrew loves having a baby brother!
He was becoming increasingly more alert to his surroundings.

He handles time in the car seat pretty well.

    four weeks old

Wyatt loves soaking in warm water and only screams when he's naked and cold leading up to getting in.

I saw a lactation consultant, and it was no surprise that I didn't have enough milk, just like the other three times. He was an awesome nurser, but needed more. I tried some more milk-producing
tricks like adding lactation cookies (a recipe with brewer's yeast, oats, and flax seed) and increasing the fenugreek I had already been using.

We saw the doctor at two-and-a-half weeks, and Wyatt weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces. The doctor wanted us to amp up the supplementing and try a nurse/formula feed alternating schedule. We settle on nursing, then supplementing every 2.5-3 hours (mostly getting 2 ounces of formula after nursing by one month). By the one month weight check, he weighed 9 pounds, 7.6 ounces! That's 1.5 pounds in less than two weeks! He was finally getting what he needed.

    He is changing so fast!
